12 August 2019 Athens to Home

This post is based primarily on Don's notes, occasionally supplemented with MT's notes from our cruise in 2019. When information from other sources is added—for further explanation to readers or to satisfy our own curiosity—that is set off in a text box (as this one).

Most of the photos that accompany this post are from Don’s camera (with a caption indicating the time it was taken); those from MT’s iPhone are indicated by “MT” placed at the beginning of the photo caption. We got up around 6:30 am and went to the buffet breakfast of Best Western Amazon Hotel around 7:30.

We checked out of the hotel around 11:00 and has to pay €6 hotel tax.

We had arranged for Christos, the taxi driver who had taken us from the ship to the hotel, to pick us up at 11:15, but he arrived as we were checking out.

We got to the Athens International Airport (Greek: Diethnis Aeroliménas Athinón “Elefthérios Venizélos”) around 11:30, in plenty of time for our flight. MT gave Christos €50, including tip.

After three inflight meals, we arrived in Chicago. Due to construction, the train that normally connected terminals was not working. So the airport provided shuttle busses. We took a bus from the International Terminal to Terminal 3 for our American airlines flight to Kansas City, scheduled for 8:30 pm. We checked a monitor for the gate number and saw that the flight had been delayed until 9:27. It actually took off around 9:40.

We arrived at KCI airport in Kansas City around 11  pm, and the 5 Guys shuttle driver met us at the gate.

 We got to our house in Leavenworth, KS just before midnight.
